Race

J24 Nationals 2026 Day 1 Race 2 — two boats from the same race, one on a Vakaros Atlas and one on a Velocitek ProStart.

Manually cut the race off at a finish time — anything logged after it is ignored for both boats, everywhere below.

Wind

Wind used by every boat: estimated

Both boats always use the same wind — recorded wind is preferred over an estimate, and if only one file has a recorded reading, that's used for both. Applying it here (or overriding it manually) recomputes VMG, tack/gybe detection, wind-angle legs and the polar overlay for both boats at once.

J24 (Vakaros)'s 15 tacks (97° apart) put it at 156°, and J24 (Velocitek)'s 11 tacks (84° apart) put it at 156°. The two agree to within 0°, which is good corroboration. That agrees with the direction in use, so nothing needs changing.

Which wind to analyse against

Every boat sailing a settled straight line is a wind vane: its heading sits half its own tacking angle to one side of the wind (half its gybing angle either side of dead downwind). Turns, and the seconds either side of them, are left out, and the whole fleet's readings are averaged. Live is the default — a fleet of wind vanes is the best reading of the breeze anyone here has — so switch to fixed to use one direction throughout.

The breeze averaged 152° and moved through 24°, 15° left and 10° right of that. Read off 2 boats. The boats agreed to within about 4° of each other. A reasonable read, though a bigger fleet or more time on the beat would sharpen it.

The wind through the race

The race averaged 152°. Above the centre line the breeze was right of that, below it left — so a run of shading on one side is a persistent shift, and the ticks along the bottom are where you tacked and gybed.

Track comparison

Includes the start line (from each instrument's logged pin/boat-end position, averaged if both have one) so the approach to the start is visible alongside the rest of the track.

Speed & VMG

Start analysis

Each boat's position relative to the start line at the gun, and how it crossed it — based on the start line position logged by each instrument.

Start line bias

Wind-up view of the (averaged) start line — which end was favoured, and how much of that advantage each boat actually used from where it started.

Race sequence

Every leg, its straight-line-only equivalent (manoeuvres filtered out of the numbers), and the mark rounding into the next leg — in race order. Legs are matched between boats by the most overlapping race time; a mark rounding only appears where both boats have a clean, contiguous leg boundary to measure it from.

Manoeuvre efficiency

Tack analysis

Each boat's best (highest made-good) tack of the race, compared head to head.

Gybe analysis

Each boat's best (highest made-good) gybe of the race, compared head to head.
