Fleet Analysis — three to ten boats at once
The same comparison as Tuning Partner Analysis, with the whole group on it. Every table gains a column per boat, every replay gains a track. Any mix of devices.
Free to use.
What you get
- One track map, the whole fleetEvery boat's track on one map, each in its own colour.
- Side by side data comparisonLeg by leg: distance, duration, speed, VMG, heel, wind angle. Then the same with manoeuvres excluded.
- Fleet replayThe start, each leg, each mark rounding. Running order and the gap to the leader, live as it plays.
- Tacks and gybes rankedEvery boat's best tack and gybe on the same table: entry, minimum and exit speed, recovery, turn angle, distance lost.
- Polar overlayEvery boat's polar on one plot.
- Mark roundingsWho gained and who lost at each mark, in metres.
- Live Wind PredictionRead the wind off the whole fleet as it shifts, instead of one direction for the race — then re-run every number against it.
Live Wind Prediction
Every boat sailing a settled straight line is a wind vane. Its heading sits half its own tacking angle to one side of the wind — half its gybing angle either side of dead downwind. Turn that round and each boat is telling you where the wind is, several times a minute.
- The whole fleet, averagedOne boat's reading carries its own steering, trim and GPS. Twenty boats carry twenty of each, and those cancel. What does not cancel is a shift, because every boat sees it.
- Straight lines onlyTurns, the seconds either side of them, the pre-start, reaches to a mark and legs sailed off the boat's own angle are all left out. Inside a tack a heading means nothing about the wind.
- Every number re-cutSwitch it on and VMG, tack angles, leg wind angles, the polar and the mark roundings are all recomputed against the wind as it actually moved.
- Watch it moveEvery replay gains a wind trace in the corner, with the live angle as it plays.
- Off unless you askA fixed wind direction stays the default. When it is on, the page says how far the breeze moved, how many boats it was read from, and how well they agreed.
How it works
-
Upload three to ten files
From the same race. .vkx, .vtk, .vcc, .gpx or .fit, mixed freely.
-
It finds the shared races
Matched on the clock. Only races every boat sailed are offered.
-
One wind, one start line
They sailed the same breeze and crossed the same line. A boat whose file has neither borrows both from a boat that does.
-
Go through the race
Start, legs, mark roundings, manoeuvres — in order, every boat on every chart.
-
Turn on Live Wind, if you want it
One tick box in the Wind card reads the breeze off the fleet and re-runs the whole analysis against it as it shifted.
Fleet Analysis — FAQ
How many boats can it take?
Three to ten, from the same race. For two, use Tuning Partner Analysis.
Do the boats need the same instrument?
No. Mix Vakaros, Velocitek and watch files freely. Each column shows what that boat's device recorded — heel appears only for the boats that measured it.
What if only some boats recorded the start line?
The ones that logged a line share it. A GPX, FIT or VCC has none of its own, so it borrows the line and the gun from a boat that has them.
How does Live Wind Prediction know what the wind was doing?
From the boats. Each one's tacking and gybing angles are measured off its own settled straight-line legs, and its heading is then half that angle away from the wind — so every boat reports a wind direction several times a minute. The fleet's readings are averaged, boats that disagree with everyone all race are left out, and the result is the wind as it moved. Turns, the pre-start, reaches and any leg sailed off a boat's own angle are excluded, because a heading only reports the wind while the boat is genuinely sailing to it. It is off by default, and the page tells you how many boats it was read from and how closely they agreed.
What if one boat stopped recording early?
Every boat is cut off where the shortest file's race window ends, so the comparison covers time they all sailed. You can set your own finish time instead.
